While I consider myself a summer person, as soon as the snow falls, I begin getting excited about making snowmen, throwing snowballs, baking cookies and watching my two boys play on the hill in our backyard. Now that the snow has briefly melted after a few days of warm weather, I’m thinking about spring and looking for inspiration, knowing that spring is a long way off. I’ve started walking by the store windows to see if anything grabs me. So far, nothing has. But at least I bought some purple flowers to put in my kitchen and drank a cup of hot chocolate. I love deep purple irises – they just make me smile. Sometimes it’s the small thing that inspire us.

What inspires you and keeps you going through long winter days and cold dark nights? Is it a cup of hot tea, a good book, a glowing fire? A trip to the Caribbean? A new pair of shoes? Walking your dog? Helping a person less fortunate? Please let me know. I’d love to hear from you. Email me at csiroka@aol.com. Hope you are well and enjoying whatever the season brings you.

Thinking about customer service

As I was waiting for a pizza this evening with my kids and sister in law at a fancy restaurant that recently opened, I began to think about customer service. Our waitress was lovely and seemed attentive when she took our order: veggie pie, pasta and chicken fingers for the kids, two chopped salads for us, and no drinks. “And make sure all the food comes at the same time please,” I asked, knowing that the kids would soon have a meltdown and start tossing food all over the place.

The kids’ plates came fast and hot and we were delighted. Then, nothing. Then, more nothing. Then, I ate a loaf of bread. Twenty minutes later after the kids finished their food and were ready to leave, we asked where our food was. “Oh, did you want it now?” our waitress asked when she finally returned to our table. I’m thinking: Is she kidding? Did she even hear a thing we said?

Now, I don’t mean to insult a busy waitress. Having been a former waitress myself and worked in retail for about a million years, I just happen to know a thing or two about customer service. If only people would listen. Listen.

That’s my main goal with my brides as well. If you have an idea or need something specific, you can always count on me to listen. I may ask a hundred stupid questions, but I just want to make sure I have it right every time. Because nothing is more frustrating than feeling like no one is listening.

Have a safe and happy halloween. For any bride in the Boston Metro area, my products will be featured this weekend at the Wedding Day Expo at the Westin Boston Waterfront. Should be a great show with a lot of fun giveaways, so check it out. My featured product will be the Sacred Stones comb that has a bouquet of jewel colors that include amethyst, citrine, jade, pearls, crystals and aquamarines. I can customize this piece using your favorite color combination or birth stone. One bride who got married on a US Navy ship used pearls along with red and blue crystals…it was so sweet. Let your imagination run wild and let me know your thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you.
