About The Designer

Engaging in a lifelong obsession with the princesses in Disney cartoons, the costumes worn by Shakespearean actors, and the glamorous jewelry of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, Princessbands founder Catherine Siroka had an epiphany while sitting in her cubicle in a dark and airless office, a decade after she left Berkeley.

As a hard working professional, she had thought tiaras were only for Barbie dolls, beauty queens, rich royals or fairy tales. But why shouldn't today's liberated woman enjoy a little piece of fantasy, too? Why can't every woman be an urban goddess? So Catherine set forth with an agenda of tiara equality, but knew it wasn't going to be easy.

Using experience in English literature and theatre arts to come up with the designs, Catherine wore one of her new creations in public to see what would happen. Instead of getting stopped by the police, she got chased down by two well-groomed women. With those first few customers, a business was born.

Each Princessbands creation is a labor of love, made one at a time and entirely by hand. Each season Catherine adds fresh designs to her collection and continues to use only the finest materials including freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals and semiprecious stones.
